Birmingham Roeper players celebrate after scoring a goal against Auburn Hills Oakland Christian on Thursday.

   Birmingham Roeper opened the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4, District 58 boys soccer playoffs with a convincing 6-2 victory over Auburn Hills Oakland Christian on Thursday, Oct. 14, at Oakland Christian.

   Roeper (11-7-2) advances to play No. 5-ranked Clarkston Everest Collegiate (13-2-5) in the district semifinals on Monday, Oct. 18, at Royal Oak Shrine Catholic.

   Junior Aristide Gardette got Roeper on the scoreboard with a rocket to the upper corner from 25 yards only minutes into the game.

   Junior Aiden Song followed up shortly after with a perfectly placed

 

header off junior Yasir Yuhas’ cross.

   Oakland Christian countered to close the score to 2-1 but Song maneuvered through the Oakland Christian back line and slotted a ball from three yards out.

   Roeper controlled the majority of the play in the second half.

   Song was taken down in the box and Gardette converted the penalty kick. Yuhas drew the next blood and chipped Oakland Christian’s keeper from 20 yards and finally Song won the scrum in the box with 10 minutes remaining to finish the scoring. Song finished with three goals and two assists.

   No. 7-ranked Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest faces No. 4-ranked Royal Oak Shrine Catholic in the other semifinal.

   The district final will be Thursday, Oct. 21.
