   Birmingham Roeper fought off Madison Heights Bishop Foley 3-1 in overtime in a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4, District 58 semifinal at Roeper’s home field at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

   Roeper (6-4-3), ranked at No. 11 in the final Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association regular-season rankings, will face No. 10-ranked Royal Oak Shrine Catholic (9-0-3) in the district final on Friday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m. at Ultimate Soccer Arenas.

   The Roughriders jumped out to a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the game off a low-driven free kick by sophomore Aristide Gardette.

 

 

 

 

   Roeper controlled most of the game, but the Ventures found the equalizer off a corner kick with 6:04 left to send the game to overtime.

   Roeper sophomore Aiden Song scored 45 seconds into the first half of overtime from a great pass by senior David Cornier-Bridgeforth.

   Song returned the favor with 2:30 left in the first half of the overtime with a great slotted pass to Cornier-Bridgeforth who found the back of the net to give the Roughriders a 3-1 lead.

   Senior Griffin Huneke earned the victory in goal for the Roughriders.

   Shrine beat No. 2-ranked Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 4-2 on Oct. 7 to earn the Catholic High School League Cardinal Division championship.
