Roughriders eliminate Hatchets

Boys soccer: Birmingham Roeper downs Bad Axe in MHSAA regional semifinal on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018

 

   Junior Jacob Gladney ripped a ball from 30 yards out over the goalie’s head and into the back of the net with 23 seconds left on the clock to lift Birmingham Roeper to a 2-1 victory over Bad Axe in a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4, Region 15 boys soccer semifinal on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Lansing Christian.

   Senior Juan Castrillon opened the scoring for Bad Axe with 17:32 left in the first half. Roeper answered back to tie the game with a goal from junior Cameron Robinson at the 8:44 mark.

   Junior Josh Vens earned the victory in goal for the Roughriders.

   Roeper improves to 15-4-4 on the season. Bad Axe ends its season at 13-5-1.

   Roeper advances to play No. 4-ranked Burton Genesee Christian at 7 p.m., Friday, for the regional championship. Roeper fell on the road to Genesee Christian 1-0 on Oct. 2.

   Genesee Christian beat New Haven 2-1 in its semifinal.
